Choosing a difficulty

Phantom Blade Zero cover art

S-GAME presents three modes for different preferences. Its pre-release deep dive adds detail beyond the August blog, especially on how bosses behave and what the Sixty-Six Days mode puts at risk. The public descriptions name these three modes; the full mode list is not established here.

The August blog recommends Wayfarer if you want to enjoy the story. The pre-release video describes it as intuitive and cinematic. It is the clearest fit for a story-first, cinematic experience.

The blog describes more advanced and adaptive enemy intelligence. The video says bosses react to spacing and adapt to player habits. Choose it if you want boss behavior to respond to how you fight.

The video describes this as an unlockable mode that turns the story countdown into a gameplay timeline. It has Hellwalker intensity; defeats cost time, and reaching zero means permanent death. It suits a run with a limited number of days, where each defeat carries a lasting risk.

If story is your priority, the developer points to Wayfarer. If you want bosses to respond to spacing and adapt to your habits, compare Hellwalker. Choose Sixty-Six Days only if a countdown and permanent death are part of the challenge you want.

The pre-release blog and video do not state how Sixty-Six Days unlocks, how much time a defeat costs, or whether a mode can be changed after starting. These launch-version details are unknown; check the in-game mode description and settings before choosing if they matter to you.
