World events and crises

The stray dog from the Adopt Wardog event

The event manager checks special events before selecting an ordinary random event. Ordinary checks are held back while another battle or event is active, during parts of the world interface/loading flow, for a short virtual-time period after a battle, and while a hostile party is close to the company. The manager also enforces a global minimum delay and does not run an ordinary event check more often than every two in-game hours.

When a check runs, events first update their own validity and score. The manager selects among eligible events using those scores, so the full script’s conditions and score matter; events are not simply drawn uniformly from the file list. A script’s presence in the 427-file event index does not mean it is eligible in every save.

The data uses virtual game time and world-coordinate distance. Do not convert these internal constants into real minutes, map tiles or a guaranteed schedule. The event cards show known eligibility, responses and results; some shorter summaries may still omit conditional details.

Before choosing an event route that returns a departing brother’s gear, free several stash slots. Returned items are stored only while space remains; excess gear can be lost even when the scene says it was returned. Dogs Dig up Loot and Wildman Finds Something have similar full-stash risks for newly found items.

The event.adopt_wardog script shows why an event index alone is not a walkthrough. Its score check requires daytime, a free stash slot and a current tile outside forests, snow, leaf forests and mountains. The event record sets a 120-day virtual cooldown. These are script conditions, not a guarantee that the event will be selected; the global event manager still applies its own checks.

On success, the script adds the accessory.wardog item. Its creation script normally gives it a random dog name, but this event overrides the inventory name to Battle Brother. The event still uses one of four inventory-icon variants:

Equipping the accessory provides the Unleash Wardog skill. The item script describes its use for scouting, tracking and chasing down fleeing enemies; when unleashed, its displayed name changes to “Wardog Collar.”

Choice Scripted result
Chase the dog away It leaves; no item is added.
Put it down A 60% roll scares it off; otherwise the dog is killed. Neither branch adds an item.
Take it in A 75% roll adds the accessory named “Battle Brother” to the stash. Otherwise the randomly selected brother receives the FeedDog injury and the dog escapes.
Ask the Houndmaster This extra choice appears when the roster has a Houndmaster-background brother; it adds the accessory without a random outcome.

The script checks for stash space before the event can score, so free a slot if you want this encounter to be eligible. The wiki has not verified the injury’s in-game severity or the event’s actual selection frequency.

The Adopt Warhound event requires the script’s Const.DLC.Wildmen flag, an empty stash slot and a map-coordinate band (Y at least 70% of map height; its compass direction has not been verified). The regular adoption choice has a 70% success roll; if the roster has a Houndmaster- or Barbarian-background brother, an extra choice adds the Warhound accessory without that roll. The item is named Warrior the Warhound and has two verified icon variants:

A separate Barbarian Volunteer event can recruit a northern traveler who already wears a Warhound accessory. Its script requires the Const.DLC.Wildmen flag, a road in the same map-coordinate band and an open roster slot; the Raider origin raises the event’s score. Wildmen maps to Warriors of the North (Steam app 1067690). The event is still subject to the world-event manager.

The Houndmaster Tames Wolf event requires snow terrain, an empty stash slot and a Houndmaster at level 5 or higher. It adds the Wolf companion to the stash and raises that Houndmaster’s mood by two. The wolf has one verified inventory icon:

Equipping the Warhound or Wolf item grants its matching unleash skill. The scripts list scouting, tracking and pursuing fleeing enemies as the companion’s uses; these summaries remain pending gameplay review.

The extracted event tree includes crisis scripts for civil war, greenskin invasion, undead and holy war, alongside general, location, origin and DLC event families. Crisis-linked contracts and ordinary travel events are different content paths; see the contract index before treating a crisis script name as an available job.

If you are waiting for a particular event, keep traveling and playing through the campaign rather than trying to force its internal timer. Check its event card for origin, roster, location and past-choice conditions; meeting them makes the event eligible, not guaranteed.
