Setup

Begin with the Hydroponic Farmer scenario or obtain the equipment through the retired farmer. Put a seed in the growing slot, supply water in the water slot, and power the Hydroponic System. Keep the output grid clear before a harvest. The starting systems can be shabby: inspect their condition and installed modules rather than treating every machine as identical.

How it works

Growth uses progress, not a guaranteed number of nights. Plant traits change the progress target, yield and water demand. Water consumption is rounded after the seed’s WATER_USE multiplier; growth divides base progress by the GROWTH_SPEED multiplier, rounds, and has a minimum target of one. The crop table gives base values before those traits and machine effects.

Checks before committing

If a crop stalls, check water quantity first, then power, plant health and space for the output. Minerals are nutrients: too little or too much harms the plant. The mineral range below is relative to the amount of water, not a demand for perfectly pure drinking water. Hydroreed has a special growth callback, so its zero base harvest quantity does not mean the plant does nothing.

Hydroreed harvest

  1. Install the Hydroreed Filter module before harvesting if you want filters. The harvest callback outputs one filter per counted module, rather than using the crop’s zero base-yield field.
  2. The harvest also returns one seed, with a separate 50% roll for another. Keep a seed for the next planting; do not count that roll as guaranteed extra stock.
