Upper Levels

An Upper Levels customer

The Upper Levels live in safety and comfort several floors up, and come down with money. Some are servants shopping for an employer, some are bored, and some are testing how useful you are.

  • Visitors staying in the Lower Levels want its illicit pleasures: drink, tobacco, anything. Bored residents come shopping and ask for your best stock.
  • Private chefs look for exotic ingredients and unusual food; servants buy household items for their employers.
  • Charity organisers donate goods to struggling shops, or collect them for people in need below.

Upper Levels standing is almost purely a trade figure. Nothing you do with the gun, the alarm or a report touches it, and in exchange their trade counts at ×1.2, the best rate in the game — and they arrive with the budget to use it.

What moves it Effect
Any trade the standard rate, then ×1.2
Eleanor’s fourth visit ×2
Reporting an Upper Levels customer −8, then 2 worse each time, down to −20
The blackmailer being caught −30
An Alarm Transmitter Module broadcast +1, once

Shooting a confirmed aug does nothing for the Upper Levels, and neither does shooting an ordinary customer. If you want their favour, sell them things.

See Reputation & factions for the shared rate and the multipliers that apply to every trade.

Perks switch on as your standing reaches each value: good ones at or above a positive number, penalties at or below a negative one.

Eleanor

Eleanor, whose mother runs the biggest hydroponic farm on the station, is stranded in the Lower Levels after that mother is jailed for embezzlement. Unimpressed by shops down here, Eleanor wants fresh, varied food until a return upstairs.

See Eleanor for her later food request and scavenging story (spoilers).
