Magnifying glass

Your margin depends on how well you judge what is in front of you. Misjudge the item or the seller and the loss is yours.

Product What to check
Cigarettes Visual inspection for counterfeits before resale
Water Testing and filtering
Rare items A proper appraisal, so you don’t overpay
Produce Quality
Implants Cleaning

Use the magnifying glass to check an item’s details, condition, seals and lettering. You can also appraise items for customers and take a commission.

See Identification & appraisal for the guide books, counterfeit checks and exact appraisal-service rules.

Push sellers down and buyers up, but every bargain has a trade-off. Suppliers overstate value, customers push their luck, and problems with contraband often show up only after you’ve paid.

For each deal you can approve, refuse, report the customer or look away. Someone is always watching, and each choice shifts your reputation.

  • Cut a product’s quality.
  • Relabel counterfeits as genuine; the arrogant elite make good marks.
  • Buy stolen goods cheap and fence them.
  • Take advantage of the poor, or help them.

Security is not the only danger. Mob justice exists in the Lower Levels.

  • Order supplies by phone.
  • Some customers barter instead of paying cash.
  • Advanced licenses unlock the underground market.
