Security

A Security officer

Security is the station’s law enforcement, and it is always building a case. Officers buy from you, inspect you, fine you and, once the evidence adds up, arrest you. Good standing buys protection; bad standing speeds up every investigation.

Security Inspectors check your shop for contraband and stolen goods, and what they find decides the visit:

  • Contraband in plain sight gets you a full inspection.
  • Contraband or stolen items can simply be seized.
  • Worse finds mean arrest for possession of contraband, unless Joe Wild’s Clemency favor turns it into a warning.
  • Bribes: an inspector may take one and look away, this time.

Some inspectors are lazy or shady, and some are corporate security. At −80 Security standing (No Stone Unturned) you only get thorough ones, and more often.

Officers arrive with one of several jobs:

Visit What happens
Fine They list the evidence against you. Pay the fine, or be arrested on the spot.
Arrest You are jailed, and the store is leased to someone else while you serve.
Execution For capital crimes, you are executed.
Aug all-clear All augs have been eliminated, and you won’t need the gun any more.

Since update 049 the officer comes the morning after the investigation completes, and the sentence is decided on arrival: a record lowered into fine territory by then no longer ends in arrest.

To slow them down, Joe Wild sells an inspection informant, fixers who silence witnesses, and Evidence Removal. See Joe Wild.

  • Requisition officers buy food and medical supplies for the department, and accept donations once their budget runs out. Trading with them raises your standing.
  • The surplus merchant sells decommissioned weapons and armor, 15% off if you take everything.

Security is the one faction you can raise without selling anything, because reports, inspections and the gun under the counter all pay in Security standing.

See Reputation & factions for the shared rate and the multipliers that apply to every trade.

Perks switch on as your standing reaches each value: good ones at or above a positive number, penalties at or below a negative one.

Officer Lun

Officer Lun hands you the wanted list and explains the alarm button under your counter (see Wanted), then keeps coming back: on patrol without a lunchbox, wounded after an ambush and wanting strong meds off the books, back on duty and still after painkillers, and offering “surplus” equipment at 33% off. That side business can end in Lun’s arrest, for selling equipment missing from the Armory or for running a surprise inspection while assigned to desk duty.

See Officer Lun for the full sequence and conditions.
